He was born March 4, 1916, in Kendallville to Harry Nicholas and Cora (O'Blaska) Kastner. He married Annetta Brinegar in June 1944 in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. She died Jan. 7, 2002, in Elkhart.

Mr. Kastner is survived by close friends Terry Wiley and Ronald Leighty, both of Elkhart; and his caregiver, Rose Gillingham of Elkhart.

There will be no visitation or services. Cremation has taken place. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kastner was a teacher at Goshen High School for 37 years, starting in 1949. He taught more than 15 different subjects and served as class sponsor for the senior class trips for many years. He attended Harvard, Ball State and Indiana University and had four master's degrees.

He was a practicing psychologist. He said his main joys in teaching were being with the students and corresponding with them years after they had graduated.
