ELKHART — Harold "Red" Derringer Jr., 62, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at Elkhart General Hospital after an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 8, 1949, in Millersburg, Ohio, to the late Harold and Frances Derringer Sr.
Surviving are three sons and two daughters, including William J. "Bill" (Jennifer) Derringer of Elkhart, Jeremiah J. Derringer and his fiancée Lisa McCaige of Mishawaka and Carrie A. (Jonathon) DiFranco of South Bend; brothers Stanley Derringer of Killbuck, Ohio, and George (Dorothy) Derringer of Edwardsburg, Mich., and seven grandchildren.
A sister, Ruthanne Derringer, preceded him in death.
In accordance to Red's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Altera Cremation Services and Billings Funeral Home, both of Elkhart, are assisting the family with arrangements.
Red worked at Vintage Trailers of Elkhart for more than 15 years as a tow motor operator.
