Elkhart: Harold E. Hobbs, 86 of Elkhart, passed to his rest on Tuesday afternoon, March 8, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born on June 19, 1929 in Elwood to the late Paul L Hobbs and Lucille Marie (Collier) Arehart. He married Rita M. Shaw on Christmas day in 1947 in Elwood. Surviving is his wife of 68 years Rita; daughter Loretta (Roger) Miller of Goshen; 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 9 step-great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Dwight Hobbs and Laymond (Thelma) Hobbs both of Elwood and David (Susan) Hobbs of Edwardsburg, Mich. Harold was preceded in death by his son Paul E. Hobbs and a sister Wavelyn Smith.
Harold was a self-employed automobile mechanic, he was the owner of Harold's Auto Service in Elkhart for 50 years. He formerly worked for Gemeinhardt and the R.V. Industry. Harold loved spending time with his family, he also enjoyed dirt track auto racing, camping, and fishing.
Friends and family may gather on Friday, March 11, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart. Services celebrating Harold's life will begin at Noon Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Billings Funeral Home where friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Brent Curry, a close family friend will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Hope Mausoleum at Rice Cemetery.
