March 8, 1923 - Sept. 20, 2011

BRISTOL — Harold E. Glassburn, 88, of Bristol, passed away at his home at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, of natural causes.

He was born March 8, 1923, in South Bend to the late Ernest L. "Tom" and Agnes I. (White) Glassburn. He married D. Virginia Rowe on Nov. 7, 1942, in Elkhart. His sweetheart for 68 years, she survives at home.

Also surviving are two sons, Reginald E. "Reg" (Dawn) Glassburn of Syracuse and Stephen A. "Steve" (Marilyn) Glassburn of Middlebury; three daughters, Norma J. (John) Crise of Elkhart, Rebekah A. "Becky" (Timothy) Hale of Bristol and Linda B. (Jack) Meyer of Elkhart; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Preceding him in death were his three brothers, Wayne, Milford and Doyne Glassburn, and a great-granddaughter, Lizzie Glassburn.

A gathering of friends and family took place Sept. 22, 2011, at Billings Funeral Home, Elkhart. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. today, Sept. 23, 2011, at Living Faith Fellowship, 2601 Benham Ave., Elkhart. Pastor Bill Frisbie of Living Faith Fellowship and Pastor John Utley of Radiant Life Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Little Pine Cemetery in Goshen. The U.S. Army Funeral Honor Guard and Elkhart DAV Chapter 19 will render military graveside honors.

Harold was a clerk and mail carrier with the U.S. Post Office in Elkhart for many years. He was an ordained minister with the Pentecostal Church of God, a member of the Living Faith Fellowship in Elkhart and had served as a missionary in Haiti several times.

In his free time, he enjoyed tinkering with his airplanes and motorcycles and visiting with all of his grandchildren. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, during which he served in Germany and Switzerland.
