He was born Dec. 30, 1932, in Elkhart to Chester D. and Marian H. (Weiler) Comer. He married Shirley Mae Stuart on Sept. 17, 1955, at Central Christian Church in Elkhart.
She survives along with three sons, Michael G. (Brenda C.) Comer and Steven (Penny) Comer, both of Granger, and David Comer of Elkhart; one daughter, Julie (Dick) Morgan of Fort Myers, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Kurt C. (Carol) Comer of Edwardsburg, Mich.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Deborah Comer; one brother, Jack R. Comer; and one infant sister, Marilyn Louise Comer.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with retired United Methodist Minister Leroy Wise officiating. Cremation will take place.
Mr. Comer, or "Double Dip" as he was fondly known, worked at Adams & Westlake Ltd. for 21 years. He retired from Elkhart Products Corp. after 16 years. He was the former owner and operator of Comer's Mobil Service at Bower and Michigan streets in Elkhart, and formerly worked for Everett Trucking in Elkhart.
Mr. Comer was known as a devoted husband and father. His favorite pastime was cooking.
