Obituary

Gwendolyn Kay (Green) Alexander passed away peacefully on Saturday, February, 19, 2022 at the Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital surrounded by her loved ones.

Gwen was born on January 18, 1942, to Glyndon C. and LoLita L. (Kane) Green, in Elkhart, IN.

She married Ronald Ray Alexander in Elkhart on December 2, 1962.  They, along with their daughter April, each accepted Christ as their Savior and were baptized together at First Baptist Church of Union, MI in the 1970's.

Gwen is survived by their daughter April (Timothy Barczak) Alexander McBride, two grandsons, Derek (Chelsea) McBride, Austin McBride, a great-grandson, Grady McBride, a great-granddaughter, Annora McBride, Austin Barczak, grandson, Deborah Whitley, sister, many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-great nephews.  Brothers-in-Law and Sisters-in-Law Donald (Terrie) Alexander, Ora (Jan) Mato, and Jessica Thompson are among surviving family members.

Husband Ron, her parents and her brother, Ronald G. Green, proceeded her in death.

Gwen graduated from White Pigeon MI High School as Class Valedictorian in 1960.  She was employed as a human resource director at Reese Products (Cequent) in Elkhart for 14 years, and later with Ancon Construction Co. in Goshen for 16 years.  A member of St. John of the Cross Episcopal Church in Bristol, Gwen recently served as Senior Vestry Warden and as a past Treasurer for ten years.

In 1964, Ron and Gwen moved to Baldwin Lake, Union, MI, where Ron built their home, living there for 44 years before moving to Bristol near the river in 2008.

Gwen loved spending time with her daughter, grandsons, and family members.  She was very much involved at her church.  Gwen especially enjoyed vacations in Florida with extended family and faraway friends, pontoon rides on the St. Joe River with Ron, family and friends.  Her favorite pastime was reading, Jeopardy and crossword puzzles.  Among her other interests were attending her grandsons' concert events, visits to botanical gardens, beachcombing, shopping, dining, travelling and genealogy research.  She made every effort to be present, whether it was work, at church, attending events or lending an ear when anyone was needing a great listener.  When called upon, she volunteered for committees and at the Bristol Community Food Pantry.

A celebration of Gwen's life will be held on Saturday, February 26, at 3 p.m. at St. John of the Cross Episcopal Church, 601 E. Vistula Street, in Bristol, with Rev. Jen Fulton officiating.  A Zoom service will be streamed; please contact a family member or St. John of the Cross for an access code. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service.  Following the service, a light reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall.  The reception will include a time of public memory-sharing; all are invited to share their favorite memories of Gwen if they wish.

Memorials may be given to St. John of the Cross Episcopal Church.

An internment will be conducted at a later date at Adamsville Cemetery.
