ELKHART — Gordon L. Daugherty, 73, passed away at 3:11 a.m. Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Elkhart General Hospital after a sudden illness.
He was born Sept. 9, 1938, in Elkhart to the late Benjamin and Arthetta (Shoup) Daugherty. He married Margaret J. Zonker in Elkhart on Valentine's Day 1958.
She survives at home along with his daughter, Stacy (Andrew) Pyfer of Elkhart, and his son, Brian (Maria) Daugherty of Dallas. Also surviving are two sisters, Barbara (Lee) Hofferth of Sun City, Ariz., and Judith (Wayne) Sharp of Middlebury; two brothers, Benjamin (Barbara) Daugherty of Elkhart and Patrick Daugherty of Edwardsburg, Mich.; and four grandchildren, Scott, Todd and Nick Anglemeyer and Nick Daugherty.
Gordon was a 1957 graduate of Elkhart Central High School, where he played football. He was a foreman at Nibco and Babcock & Wilcox, was owner/operator of Oak Manor Sunoco and owner/operator of Margie's Tasty Queen. Most recently, he was an associate at Walmart.
He enjoyed playing euchre and cards, and was a die-hard fan of "Da Bears."
No services are scheduled and cremation will take place in accordance with Gordon's wishes. Billings Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
