ELKHART — Gordon Brooks "Gordo" Crase, 82, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 15, 2011, at Valley View Health Care Center.
He was born Aug. 18, 1929, in Battle Creek, Mich., to the late Dr. Bertram E. and Elizabeth (Wheelock) Crase. He married Joan Ruth DeShon on March 3, 1951, in Angola. She passed away April 2, 1993, in Elkhart.
Surviving are his children, Robin (Vern) Jolgren, Gregory D. Crase, Bert (Kim) Crase and Gordon (Monica) Crase, all of Elkhart. Seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
A brother, Col. Roland B. Crase, preceded him in death in 1981.
Gordon was a 1948 graduate of Battle Creek High School and received his degree in mortuary science from Wayne State University in 1952, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Delta fraternity. Mr. Crase was formerly a director at Westbrook-Metz Funeral Home and in sales in the R.V. industry at Comfo-Sleep and Camelot Enterprises. Gordon was co-owner of the Continental Liquor Store and the Imperial Inn. After retirement, he worked part time at Tom Naquin Chevrolet and was a member of the Elks.
A gathering of friends and family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Billings Funeral Home. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place with interment at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery in Battle Creek. Let it be said, "Gordo Crase never knew a stranger and had a heart of gold."
