She was born May 31, 1925, in Porter, Ind., to Roy R. and Florence O. (Johnson) Salmander. On May 16, 1964, in LaPorte County, she married Sylvester "Sal" Kniola. He died in 1991.

She is survived by one stepson, Jack (Janet) Kniola of Michigan City; one stepdaughter, Carol Jean (Kenny) Mitchill of Newton, Ill.; two sisters, Lois (Ralph) Walters and Norma (James) Marshall, both of Elkhart; and one brother, Weldon (Janice) Salmander of Elkhart.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Delores and Loretta Salmander.

Friends may call one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Wednesday funeral service at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor Steven Reshan of Augustana Lutheran Church will officiate. A graveside service will take place at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Swan Lake Cemetery, Michigan City. All times listed are Elkhart times.

Mrs. Kniola was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed daytime television, playing cards, watching NASCAR and animals.
