ELKHART — Glenn E. Smith, 85, of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, at Miller's Merry Manor in Wakarusa.
He was born July 21, 1928, in Elkhart to Oliver and Nellie (Cook) Smith.
On Sept. 27, 1950, he married Joan I. (Earnhart) Smith in Elkhart. She survives at home.
Other survivors include three daughters, Julie A. (Lynn) Woodiwiss of Elkhart, Vicki L. Smith of Mishawaka and Debbie K. (Stephen) Rethlake of South Bend; and two grandchildren, Drew and Holly Woodiwiss of Elkhart.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clifford and John Smith, and three sisters, Edith Reith, Helen Eby and Grace Tibbets.
Glenn was employed as a driver for Yoder Oil Co. for more than 40 years prior to his retirement. Following retirement he continued to work part-time as a groundskeeper at Raber Golf Course in Bristol for 10 years.
He often enjoyed spending time fishing, bowling, golfing and watching Chicago Cubs baseball games.
The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, funeral service at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor Melissa Zimmerman of Faith United Methodist Church, Goshen, will officiate. Cremation will take place following the funeral and his cremated remains will be buried in Sugar Grove Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Glenn.
