Geraldine Ann "Gerry" Watkins, 97, of Elkhart, passed away of natural causes on Wednesday, August 31, 2023 at the "Brickyard at Hively" living center in Elkhart at 12:58 am.  Her family was at her side when she died.

Gerry was born August 5, 1926 in Elkhart to the late William H. and Margaret (Baker) Newton.  She married Richard C Osborne in 1943 and later Gordon L Watkins in 1961, both have preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughters Jean (Phil) Nelson of Elkhart and Nancy (Kim) Remmel of Glendale, Arizona; stepdaughters Marla (Reg) McCreary of Elkhart and Tracey (Fernando) Ochoa of Belen, New Mexico; her sister Mary (John) Bell of Elkhart and by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.   A daughter, Janice (Bill) Schlabaugh preceded her in death as did brothers Lee, Wayne, James and Robert.  Gerry's love extended beyond her family to her extended family and to a lifetime of good friends.

During her work life she worked at Miles Laboratory, CTS, and for over a decade at the Department of Public Welfare.   She enjoyed reading and playing cards and bowling until she was 91.  Her retirement was dedicated to her family, her friends and to the community.  There was more than enough love for everyone. Gerry was a member of Faith United Methodist Church where she volunteered on many projects.  Until recently you could find her volunteering at Susanna's Kitchen.

In accordance with her wishes, Gerry will be cremated.   A memorial service will be held at Faith United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 16 at 1:00 pm followed by an informal gathering at the church.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Susanna's Kitchen or to your favorite community food pantry.
