Obituary
ELKHART — Geraldine J. "Gerry" Doctor, 96, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully of natural causes at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkhart at 12:55 a.m. Friday, April 15.
She was born Oct. 10, 1919, in Gas City, to the late Thomas L. and Lula (Parker) DeShon.
Surviving are her daughter, Eunice L. DeMorrow of Elkhart; her son, Phillip E. Doctor of Lebanon; 15 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 41 great-great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her daughter, Rebecca R. Shay; her sons, Thomas and Jacob Doctor; sisters Florence Cox, Daisy Heath and Edna Reynolds; and grandson Mike Shay.
Gerry's life will be celebrated with a viewing at noon and a service at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart. Pastor Todd Doctor, Gerry's grandson, will officiate, and cremation will follow the services.
Gerry worked at Miles Laboratories of Elkhart for nearly 23 years, retiring in the early 1980s. A very private person, Gerry enjoyed doing things at her home, such as gardening, embroidering and crocheting. She was very spiritually strong-willed, and she will be best remembered for her devotion and dedication to her family.
Memorial donations may be given to the Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
