SARASOTA, Fla. — Gerald E. "Jerry" Miller, 77, of Sarasota and formerly of Elkhart, Ind., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Hubbard Hill Estates Retirement Community.
He bravely fought a battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme since January.
He was born July 15, 1938, in Kouts, Ind., to Ralph O. and Lorene Lila (Martin) Miller.
Survivors include two daughters, Ronda (Steve) Yoder of Indianapolis and Tami Miller of Pendleton, Ind.; son Craig (Stephanie) Miller of Elkhart; former spouse and caregiver, Joy Miller of Elkhart; brother David Miller of Jacksonville; sisters Jean (Stan) Shriner of Goshen, Ind., and Shirlee (Dean) Lambright of Jacksonville; grandchildren Daniel, Emma and Nathan Arndt, all of Indianapolis, and Rylee Miller of Elkhart; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Carol Mann, and nephew Jeremy Miller.
Jerry proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1966 as an MP.
He worked for Schuster Sheet Metal from 1964 until retiring as vice president in 2000. He was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 20.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, and for an hour prior to the 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, funeral service at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. The Rev. Larry Smith of Calvary United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Little Pine Cemetery.
Memorials in memory of Jerry may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
