ELKHART -- Gerald Norman Johnson, 84, formerly of Bristol, died at 5:24 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 6, 2009) in Valley View Healthcare Center.


He was born March 13, 1925, in Elkhart to Robert and Pauline (Newman) Johnson. On Nov. 28, 1947, he married Norma Jean Fuller in Elkhart. She died July 7, 1989, in Elkhart.


There will be no visitation. The U.S. Army Burial Detail and DAV Chapter 19 will render military honors at today's 1 p.m. graveside service at Prairie Street Cemetery.


Mr. Johnson is survived by one daughter, Linda (Richard) Hibshman of Bristol; one son, Robert "Bob" (Rascia) Johnson of Bristol; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Roberta Hancock of Tipton and Rose Bailey of Osceola.


Two siblings preceded him in death, Donald Johnson and Pauline Case.


Mr. Johnson was a glazier for 35 years at Adams & Westlake Ltd., Elkhart. He was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Elkhart, and had attended Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Goshen. He was an avid fisherman and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1943 until he was honorably discharged in 1946.


Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is assisting with arrangements.
