George “Joe” Clark McCollough, age 67, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026, in Elkhart, Indiana, the city where his story began on December 12, 1958.

Joe was many things throughout his life: a jeweler, an audio-video engineer, a craftsman, a gardener, a devoted father, a proud grandfather, a beloved brother and son, and a loyal friend. Above all else, however, Joe’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was the family he loved so deeply.

He is survived by his daughter, Celia McManus, and his son, Charles McCollough; his cherished grandson, Seamus McManus, and granddaughter, Aiden McManus; along with countless family members, friends, neighbors, and loved ones whose lives were touched by his kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit.

Joe was known for bringing people together. His home was a gathering place filled with conversation, laughter, projects, football games, homemade pizza, and friendship. Whether he was helping someone with a household project, discussing Notre Dame football, sharing stories with friends, or spending time with his children and grandchildren, Joe found joy in the people around him.

Following a life-altering stroke, Joe faced one of the greatest challenges of his life. Yet rather than allowing adversity to define him, he chose to become an example of perseverance, resilience, and hope. Through his involvement in stroke support groups and his daily determination to continue living life to its fullest, he inspired others to keep moving forward regardless of the obstacles they faced. Joe believed that life was still worth embracing, no matter the setback.

One of Joe’s greatest passions during the last decade of his life was the garden he lovingly cultivated at his home in Elkhart. What began as a way to continue working, healing, and challenging himself after his stroke grew into something far more meaningful.

Every plant in Joe’s garden carried the name of someone he loved.

A blueberry bush was named after his son, Charles. A peach tree was named after his daughter, Celia. The largest trees on the property stood in honor of his parents, Sharon and Chuck. Other plants were named after his sister Bobbi, his grandchildren, and the many friends who became family throughout the years. There was a place in Joe’s garden for everyone important in his life.

For ten years, he cared for that garden with patience, dedication, and love. It became a living reflection of his heart—a place where family, friendship, perseverance, and gratitude could continue to grow.

On June 21, 2026, Joe was found peacefully at rest in the very garden he had nurtured for so many years. Surrounded by the living reminders of the people he loved most, he passed away in a place that reflected the center of his life and the depth of his love for others. It is a comforting and fitting image for a man whose life was devoted to caring for those around him.

Those who knew Joe will remember his kindness, his welcoming spirit, his determination, and his ability to find joy in life’s simple moments. They will remember family gatherings, gardening conversations, football games, laughter shared with friends, and the warmth he brought into every room.

His children will forever treasure memories of playing catch for hours in the yard, water fights that filled the house with laughter, watching him proudly walk his daughter down the aisle, and seeing the unmistakable joy on his face when he first met his grandson, Seamus, and his granddaughter, Aiden.

Joe leaves behind a legacy not measured in possessions, but in love, resilience, friendship, faith, and family. His life reminds us that even after hardship, beauty can still grow. Like the garden he tended so carefully, the seeds he planted in the hearts of others will continue to flourish for generations to come.

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
