ELKHART -- George C. Main, 82, of Elkhart, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Sunday (Aug. 1, 2010) at his home after an extended illness.
He was born May 11, 1928, to George and Florence (Hayes) Main. On Sept. 30, 1950, he married Norma J. (Fuller) Main in Elkhart. She died May 28, 2002.
Survivors include son Keith (Linda) Main of Mishawaka; daughters Georgia Main and Carolyn Laughter, both of Elkhart; sister Mary Jean Barnes of Elkhart; brother Carl (Joyce) Main of Sun City, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by sister Ruth Goble.
George was employed at several local dealerships as a mechanic. He was a member of First Brethren Church of Elkhart and a volunteer for the Elkhart Rescue and Civil Defense. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He enjoyed talking on his CB and was known as "Daddy Blue Coat."
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the 11 a.m. memorial service Saturday (Aug. 7, 2010) at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Mr. Jeff Estep will officiate. His cremated remains will be buried at Prairie Street Cemetery at a later date.
