He was born Sept. 17, 1935, to Fred and Verlon (McCaskill) Taber in Truman, Ark. He and his family have resided in Elkhart for most of their lives. He married the love of his life of 58 years, Linda J. (Haven) Taber, on Aug. 16, 1952, in Angola. She preceded him in death on Oct. 27, 2010.
The surviving members of his family include two sons, Gene A. (Linda S.) Taber and Patrick M. (Judy L.) Taber; a daughter, Rhonda L. Aaron, all of Elkhart; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, with another to arrive in April; and two brothers, Jerry L. (Diane) Taber and Wayne (Shirley) Taber, both of Osceola. He was preceded in death by both parents and two brothers, James B. Taber and Bob D. Taber.
Gene lived a full and generous life. He was an Air Force veteran, a former member of the Moose and a full time father, grandfather and friend. He retired from Nyloncraft around the year 2000 and had run his own business, Northside M/H Service/Heating and AC, since 1988, which is now operated respectively by his grandsons. He was an avid NASCAR fan, truly enjoyed his family and showed his love for them in numerous ways. He will never be forgotten, for he has left his family with many, many special memories to treasure.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the 11 a.m. memorial service Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at New Creation Fellowship, 30190 C.R. 10, Granger, where he attended for many years. Pastor David Klahr will be ministering his going-home service. A luncheon will follow at the church.
