Obituary

Gene Carson Davis went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 17 at the ripe old age of 92. He was loved by all who knew him for his kind ways, gentle humor and the ever-present mischievous twinkle in his eye. He had a generous spirit, a big welcoming smile and would give the shirt off his back to someone in need. While he enjoyed fishing and golfing, his family was his life's pride and joy. He loved his grandchildren with all his heart, never hesitating to get right on the floor to play with them. Any time he'd see you coming, his big blue eyes would light up and he would ask how you've been and how's the family, because he genuinely wanted to know. Then he would demand for you to "Get over here" and wrap you up in the best bear hugs. He was always happiest when surrounded by his beloved family. He will be greatly missed.

Gene was born on October 13, 1932 to William and Myrtle (Mary) Carver Davis in Freeman, West Virginia, the youngest of seven children. He served in the U.S. Army as a Demolitions Specialist in South Korea and Hawaii. Returning home to the Bluefield, WV area, he married the love of his life, Peggy Jo Parks on October 11, 1958. The following year, Gene moved his family to Elkhart, IN and began working for Miles Laboratories. He remained there for 18 years before returning to West Virginia in 1976, when he was employed by Kammer Furniture until 1986. At that time they returned to Elkhart, where he worked for Concord Community Schools until his retirement in 1997.

One of the highlights of his retirement was a special baptismal ceremony held on August 2, 2015, where Gene was baptized alongside his grandson Evan into the family of God in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and his beloved wife Peggy. He is survived by daughters Rosetta (Dennis) Bloss, Diana (Tom) Datena, Teresa (Bobby - late) Allen; and a son, Jeffery (Elise) Davis. His legacy includes eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
