ELKHART — Gayle L. Alwine, 87, of Elkhart, passed away Sunday, Nov. 9, at East Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Oct. 25, 1927, in Elkhart to Clarence and Lucille (Johnson) Alwine.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Holliday and Roxanne Habel, both of Elkhart; two sons, Robert (Tonda) Alwine of Franklin, Tenn., and Roger (Trudi) Alwine of Elkhart; one sister, Dorothy Bailey of Elkhart; seven grandchildren, Nick, Marc, Jason, Christopher, Dale and Roger Jr. Alwine and Travis Chilcott; four great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren, Cari Staples and Adam Troyer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Maxine Kryder, Waneta Yoder and Rosemary Lands, and two brothers, Alvin and Everett Alwine.
Gayle was employed as a painter at Pacemakers and New Yorker Homes prior to his retirement. He was an avid bicyclist and enjoyed taking long walks daily.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no public service. Cremation will take place at Altera Cremation Services.
Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is in charge of arrangements.
