Obituary
ELKHART — Gary S. Ellis, 62, of Elkhart, passed away Saturday, Dec. 20, at his residence.
He was born May 21, 1952, in Jackson, Mich., to Wilbur and Lottie (Balawender) Ellis.
Survivors include one son, Cody (Heather) Peffley of Goshen; one daughter, Cierra VanVleet of Elkhart; three sisters, Teresa Duncan of Hillsdale, Mich., and Nancy Clark and Karen (Frankie) Phillips, both of Elkhart; one brother, John (Debbie) Ellis of Goshen; five grandchildren; two cousins; and caretakers Jessie Lenington and Mary Sword, both of Jackson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Christopher Staggs, and one sister, Debra Pratt.
Gary was employed as an automobile mechanic and later was a self-employed small engine mechanic.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved spending time outdoors.
Cremation will take place at Altera Cremation Services, and his cremated remains will be buried in St. John's Cemetery, Jackson, at a later date.
Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is entrusted with arrangements.
