Gary Lamar Egolf, 79, of Elkhart (better known to most as Top Hat), passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Woodland Manor. Gary was born on July 15, 1943 in Elkhart to the late Kenneth and Florence (Beechy) Egolf. Surviving are two daughters, Cindy L. Egolf, Traci Frankenberger; and a granddaughter Angela Peterson, of Charleston, SC; and his former wife and close friend Margaret Dalton.

Gary was a graduate of Jimtown High School, class of 1961. Gary retired from South Bend Lathe, where he worked as a machinist. Gary loved everything about motorcycles, having had one since the age of 16. He owned a Harley, an Indian and many others throughout his life, but his Harley was his favorite. He was a member and a Road Captain of HOG, Harley Owners Group and Elkhart Moose Lodge #599. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and camping. He attended Elkhart Church of Christ on CR 12 in Elkhart.

Top Hat loved the blues and enjoyed may performances at many different venues. He shared this passion with many friends and family members.

The last eight years of his life, he spent the winter months in Sebring, FL., where he made many friends. His goal was to never see another snowflake.

Services celebrating Gary's life will begin at 3:00 pm on Friday, January 13, 2023, at Billings Funeral Home, where friends may visit with the family starting at 2:00. In accordance with his wishes, cremation was chosen under the care of Billings Funeral Home. Gary will be laid to rest at a later date at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. In lieu of flowers.
