Gary P. Davis, 74, died Thursday, February 16, 2023, at home in Elkhart, IN. Gary was born February 10, 1949, in Whittier, CA, to the late Hurshel F. and Mary L.(Gardner) Davis and would later graduate from Whittier High School. On June 17, 1972, in Elkhart, Gary married the love of his life, Catherine A. (Nelson) Davis whom he would spend over 50 wonderful years with before his passing.

Gary is survived by his wife, Catherine; children, Patrick R. (Samantha) Davis, Nicholas W. (Holly) Davis, and Heidi M. (Luke) Harbison; grandchildren, Austin Hayslip (Grant), Myriah Grant, Catherine Grant, Lily Davis, Nolan Davis, Juliet Simasy, Chance Davis, Kaleb Winne, and Jacob Winne; great-grandchildren, Julianna Grant and Bryson Hayslip (Grant); and siblings, Dennis F. Davis, David W. (Gale) Davis, and Lynda J. Gustin.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents; his nephew, James Davis; and sister-in-law, Karen Davis.

Gary was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War and worked as an air traffic controller, tunnel rat, and a SOG. He completed two tours in Vietnam and was proud of his service and country. When he was back in the states, Gary worked at Nickles Bakery for 15 years and Cequent Towing for 10 years until he was forced to retire.

First and foremost, Gary loved his family with all of his heart. He enjoyed music, particularly drums and piano, along with the outdoors, partaking in fishing and backpacking trips. Gary will be dearly missed by those whose hearts he has touched throughout his life.

Visitation for Gary will be held on Friday, February 24, 2023, at Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart from 2 PM to 4 PM. A funeral service with military honors by the United States Army Funeral Honor Guard and Elkhart Veterans Honor Guard will begin at 4 PM following visitation, with friend of the family Brandon Watts officiating. In accordance with Gary's wishes, cremation will follow services.
