Obituary

ELKHART - G. Gary Hyser, 81, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, October 13, 2015 at his home. Gary was born on January 26, 1934 in South Whitley, to the late George B. and Vera (Shriver) Hyser. He married Carolyn Elaine Gambrell on November 26, 1958 in Columbia City.

Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Carolyn E. Hyser; son, Timothy Carlton Lee (Ruby) Hyser of Goshen; daughter, Teresa Lynn (Charles) Gifford of Anaktuvuk Pass, Ak.; 11 grandchildren, CJ (Elizabeth) Gifford, Anthony Gifford, Sarah (Chris) Seigel, Rye Gifford, Nate Hyser, Brittany Hyser, Alex Hyser and Vanessa, Darlene, Kathy and William; 7 great grandchildren and another due soon; also surviving is a brother, Ted (Phyllis) Hyser of Denver; sisters, Charlene (Darrell) Hodson of Raber, Maris (Jim) Dishong of Huntington and Alverta Brown of Marion.

Preceding Gary in death was his infant son Michael Stewart Hyser.

Gary retired from GTE, after 21 years of service as an engineer. He also formerly worked as a draftsman at Henkels and McCoy and in the RV Industry in Elkhart. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he was an aide to his wife in Sunday school. He was also a children's leader for Bible Study Fellowship. Gary proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed woodworking, computers and technology, attending air shows and his two fish ponds in his yard.

Friends and family may call from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart. Services celebrating Gary's life will begin at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2015 at the funeral home, where friends may call for 1 hour prior to the service. Reverend Christopher Davis of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate. The service will conclude with military honors being rendered by the U.S. Army Funeral Honor Guard. In keeping with his wishes, cremation will follow the service.  Inurnment will occur at a later date in the Veterans Tower at Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart.
