ELKHART — Frieda M. Baskerville, 96, of Elkhart, passed away early Sunday morning, June 14, at Greenleaf Health Campus, with her loving family at her side.
Frieda was born in Noble County, in the town of Ege, to John and Frances (Stefanski) Kostielney.
She married John W. Baskerville on Aug. 17, 1940, in Elkhart. John died on Sept. 21, 1994.
Surviving are a son, Kent Baskerville and wife Stacia of Elkhart; daughter Deb Weaver and husband Bob Foster of Elkhart; and a son-in-law, Larry Phoebus of Elkhart; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren, whom she adored and whom meant more than anything to her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; a daughter, Rita Phoebus; granddaughter Julie Phoebus; and brother Aloysius Kostielney.
Frieda was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a devout Catholic. She attended St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, where she was active in many ministries. This past year she began to attend St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing card games and was a member of many cards clubs. She baked the best pies and also liked to crochet, making many afghans for extended family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 18, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 10 a.m. The Rev. Matthew Coonan will officiate. Entombment will follow in Hope Mausoleum in Rice Cemetery.
