PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Freida Jean Higgins, 73, of Punta Gorda and formerly of Elkhart, Ind., passed gently to her rest Tuesday morning, March 4, in her home, surrounded by family.
Freida was born July 28, 1940, in Manchester, Tenn., to Fred and Thelma Jean (Haggard) Brown.
She married Bob J. Higgins on June 25, 1960.
Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Bob J. Higgins, son Greg L. (Laralee) Higgins and a daughter, Chan Holley, all of Punta Gorda. She leaves to cherish to her memory five loving grandchildren, Kirsten, Shaun and Skyler Higgins and Travis and Presley Kreischer; and her sisters, Joyce (Roy) Malcom of Elkhart, Barbara (David) Stealy of Cortez, Colo., and Patti (Rob) King of Elkhart. Also, her mother, Thelma Jean Brown of Elkhart, and several nieces and nephews survive as well.
Her father, Fred Brown, and mother-in-law Lucy Huffman preceded her in death.
Freida was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and much-loved friend. Freida was a devoted homemaker and gardener who enjoyed planting the Lord's riches, and she loved to cook. She had been a resident of Punta Gorda since 2003.
Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Jamestown United Methodist Church, 59218 C.R. 3, Elkhart, with services celebrating Freida's life to follow at 2 p.m. The Rev. Paul Rogers will officiate. Burial and graveside services will follow in Olive (East) Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Tidewell Hospice, 900 Tamiami Trail, Punta Gorda, FL 33950.
