ELKHART - Frederick R. "Fred" Dils, 57 of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at his home. Fred was born on March 12, 1960 in Elkhart to the late Ray and Norma (Addington) Dils. He married Sally S. Dench on May 10, 1996 in Elkhart, she survives, as well as 4 children, Julie (Andrew) Cook, Joseph Dench, Andrew (Ashley) Dench, Angie Zapata Konanz (from a previous marriage); 4 grandchildren, Logan Cook, Shawntell Dench, Riley and Jordin Dench; 2 nephews Rick Filley and Bobby Porter; several great nieces and nephews and his sister Peg (Ken) Bradley. Fred was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Chuck Filley, Jerry Dils, nephew Chuck Filly Jr. and a niece Michelle Porter. Fred worked for Elkhart Community School Corporation as a custodian for many years at Elkhart Memorial High School, and was formerly employed at Century Distributing, Inc. Fred was an animal lover, he enjoyed fishing and was an avid Notre Dame and Chicago Bears Fan. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, will host a gathering of family and friends from 6 until 8 pm Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017. Per Fred's wishes, cremation was chosen.
