ELKHART -- Freda Pauline Gorbutt, 85, of Elkhart, died at 9:15 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 21, 2008) in her home.


She was born July 24, 1923, in Lima, Ohio, to Alfred and Freda (Dengler) Carnes. On May 26, 1946, she married Merle E. Gorbutt in Lima.


Mrs. Gorbutt is survived by one daughter, Linda S. (Todd) Yarrington of Westerville, Ohio; one son, C. Craig (Jere) Gorbutt of Collierville, Tenn.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Frances C. (Joe) Park of Lima.


She was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.


Mrs. Gorbutt was a homemaker who enjoyed caring for and nurturing her family. She was a member of Adamsville Road Church of God and was musically talented. In her younger years, she sang in a quartet. She loved playing the organ and listening to the Gaither Brothers Christian Gospel Singers and Lawrence Welk.


Mrs. Gorbutt was a great cook and an avid gardener and animal lover.


Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. The funeral service will follow at 5 p.m. with Pastor Rob Meckley of Adamsville Road Church of God officiating. Burial will be at noon Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
