ELKHART —. Frank M. Serafino, 92, of Elkhart passed away peacefully of natural causes at Riverside Terrace Nursing Facility in Elkhart on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 8:20 a.m.
He was born Aug. 1, 1924, in Wyola, Wisconsin to the late Anthony and Mary (Campiti) Serafino and later married Marilyn J. Schidler on Sept. 1, 1989 in Elkhart. She survives at home.
Also surviving are his children Andrea (Amer) Serafino Ibrahim of N. Royalton, Ohio and Steven (Kathy) Serafino of Elkhart; siblings Joseph (Lila) and Carmen (Betty) Serafino and Viola Cattell, all of Elkhart, and grandchildren Emily (Ryan) Curell, Amelia, Dan and David Serafino and Joseph and Olivia Ibrahim.
A sister, Gloria Serafino, and a son, Anthony Serafino, preceded him in death.
Frank was a painter at AM General for many years, retiring in 1989.
He was an avid gardener and loved spending time tending to his vegetables. He also liked to hunt and fish when he was younger, and was always considered a pretty good cook as well.
He was an honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Philippines in an anti-aircraft battery during WWII.
Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart is honored to host Frank's life celebration services on Tuesday, Apr. 18, 2017, starting with a viewing at 3 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 5 p.m. Pastor Joe Rager of the Riverside Bible Church of Elkhart will officiate and burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola the following day (Wednesday) with graveside military honors being rendered at 10 a.m.
Memorial donations may be given to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
