BUSHNELL, Fla. — Francis L. "Mike" Schlabach Sr., 77, a lifelong resident of Elkhart, Ind., and a resident of Bushnell, passed away at 3:07 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis.
He was born April 9, 1938, in Elkhart, to the late Clarence H. and Frances G. (Shaffer) Schlabach.
He later married Patty L. Schott on March 7, 1960, in Elkhart. She survives in Bushnell.
Also surviving are his daughter, Tonia Price of Bushnell; sons Douglas Schlabach of Elkhart and Michael (Donna) and Francis "J.R." Schlabach Jr., both of Middlebury; brother Ray Schlabach of Elkhart; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Schlabach III.
A celebration of Mike's life will begin with a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 15, at Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, with visitation for an hour prior, at the funeral home. The Rev. Davis Webster, a family friend, will officiate. Burial will follow in Rice Cemetery in Elkhart. The U.S. Army Funeral Honor Guard and Elkhart DAV Chapter 19 will render military graveside honors.
Mike was an over-the-road truck driver for over 25 years and also worked at Sturgis Iron and Metal Works in Elkhart. He was an avid NASCAR and stock car racing fan and enjoyed relaxing in front of his TV. He was also a U.S. Army veteran.
