ELKHART -- Florence Scharrer Culp, 102, of Elkhart, died at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 1, 2008) in Valley View Healthcare Center.
She was born Oct. 1, 1906, in Charles Mix County, S.D., to Dan and Hanna (Swansen) Nolan. On Dec. 30, 1944, she married Russell M. Culp in Elkhart. He died May 28, 1973.
Mrs. Culp is survived by one son, Donald (Sue) Scharrer of Elkhart; three grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Lawrence, Leonard, Kenneth and Cornelius Nolan; and three sisters, Lena Nolan Dorothy Finwall and Marie Sandberg.
Mrs. Culp was the owner/operator of Culp's Lettering Service in Elkhart for many years and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. She lived at Anglers Paradise in Bonita Springs, Fla., for close to 20 years before moving back to Elkhart in 1993.
Mrs. Culp enjoyed reading, knitting and crocheting. She was a Chicago Cubs fan.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Phil DeVolder of St. Vincent's officiating. Burial will be in Rice Cemetery.
