Obituary
ELKHART — Ewell D. Cora, 74, of Elkhart, passed away Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, at Elkhart General Hospital after an extended illness.
He was born in Elkhart on Oct. 3, 1937, to the late John and Ruth (Hawkins) Cora, and later married Bertie Vance on Dec. 21, 1981, in Elkhart. She survives at home.
Also surviving are daughters Michelle Firkins and Lee Ann (Troy) Bruncz, both of Elkhart, Barbara (Skip) Wilson of Marion and Jo Ann Cora of South Bend; sons Robert (Debbie) Cora of Marion and Mark Chandler of Elkhart; brother Carl Cora of Elkhart; sister Lucille (Ray) Culbertson of White Pigeon, Mich.; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded by son-in-law Cory Firkins; sons Ewell Cora Jr. and Mark Chandler; brother John Cora; and sister Virginia Seal.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart. The U.S. Army and Elkhart DAV Chapter 19 will render military honors. Cremation will follow services.
Ewell served in the Army in Korea and Vietnam and was an over-the-road truck driver.
