ELKHART -- Friends of Evelyn Shikella may call two hours before the 8 p.m. Friday service at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. The Rev. Richard Wineland of St. John of the Cross Episcopal Church will officiate. Cremation will take place, and a private family service will be Sept. 2 in St. Michael's Cemetery in Butler, Pa., where Mrs. Shikella previously lived.

Mrs. Shikella, 84, died at 2:03 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 19, 2006) in East Lake Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born March 2, 1922, in Trenton, Pa., to Paul and Eva (Kufta) Barna. She married John Shikella on Sept. 5, 1940. He died Feb. 1, 1984.

Surviving are one son, John (Marilyn) Shikella of Maricopa, Ariz.; one daughter, Shirley (David) Adams of Elkhart; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and three sisters, Mary Kechula of Buck Mountain, Pa., Julia Karas of Frackville, Pa., and Victoria Whitecavage of Manchester, N.H.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Peter, Frank "Bill" and Michael Barna; two sisters, Anna Harris and Helen Barna; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Shikella was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking for her family.
