ELKHART -- Evelyn L. Rush, 72, of Elkhart, passed away at 4:10 a.m. Sunday, June 26, 2011, at Valley View Healthcare Center, Elkhart.
She was born Aug. 12, 1938, in Elida, Ohio, to Lewis F. and Thelma "Jean" (Jamison) Redd. On Feb. 3, 1968, she married Hugh Martin Rush in Lima, Ohio. He survives.
In addition to her husband and mother, other survivors include two sons, Marvin Rush of Goshen and Charles Rush of Elkhart; daughter Carolyn (James) Goddard of Elkhart; two brothers, Don (Sue) Redd of Fort Myers, Fla., and Byron (Karon) Redd of Sidney, Ohio; two sisters, Janice (Ron) Binkley of Harrod, Ohio, and Margaret Redd Brenneman of Tampa, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
Evelyn was a 1956 graduate of Elida High School and later graduated from Ohio State University. Prior to marriage, she worked as a teacher in the Florida public schools. Prior to her retirement, she was a homemaker, volunteered at Concord West Side Elementary School and employed by Montgomery Ward. Some of her favorite hobbies included bowling, sewing, painting ceramics and 4-H fair exhibitions.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, and one hour prior to the 1 p.m. funeral service Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Sugar Grove Church, 58512 Old C.R. 17, Goshen. The Rev. Dr. Cary Perdue, former pastor of Sugar Grove Church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart.
