ELKHART -- Evelyn Griswold, 78, of 2600 Morehouse Ave., died at 4:45 p.m. Saturday (July 1, 2006) in Elkhart Rehabilitation Center, after an extended illness.

She was born Feb. 12, 1928, in Solsberry, Ind., to Merrell and Nellie (Hostetter) Griswold. She is survived by one son, Morris D. (Suzette) Eastham of Elkhart; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Wilson of Mattoon, Ill., and Phyllis Helms of Bloomington; and one brother, Jim (Mary Ann) Hostetter of Elkhart.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Thursday funeral service, all at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor Roy Andrews of Elkhart First Brethren Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Little Pine Cemetery.

Mrs. Griswold was employed by Whitehall Laboratories for more than 39 years before retiring in the early 1990s. She always enjoyed going into work and had made many friends there. She was proud of her home and was a fastidious homemaker. She enjoyed traveling when she could and was an avid old movie fan, with John Wayne and Gary Cooper among her favorite actors.
