Obituary
ELKHART — Evelyn C. Gianinno, 91, of Elkhart, passed away Saturday afternoon, July 19, at East Lake Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Evelyn was born April 14, 1923, in Gary to the late John and Cecilia (Piertzak) Nowak.
As the former Evelyn C. Nowak, she married Victor J. Gianinno on Oct. 9, 1946. Victor died Dec. 11, 2002.
In addition to her parents and husband, brothers Eugene and John Nowak preceded her in death.
Surviving are her children, Lawrence "Larry" (Susan) Gianinno of Boston, Marcianne "Marcy" Gianinno of Chicago, Justine Gianinno of Elkhart and Mary (James) Chomer of Middlebury; loving grandchildren Alexandra (Marc Gronowitter) Gianinno , Carly (Michael) Smaha and Andrew (Roya) Chomer; four great-grandchildren, Abigail, Ryan and Bridget Granowitter and Bennett Smaha; and soon to arrive grandson Theodore Chomer; sister-in-laws, Judith Nowak of Hobart and Molly Nowak of Crown Point survive as well.
Evelyn was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She formerly worked as a secretary for her, husband Victor, at General Beer Distributors. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Rosary Society and Married Women's Club.
Friends may call one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Wednesday, July 23, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1405 N. Main St., Elkhart. Father Jason Freiburger will officiate. Entombment will follow in Memories mausoleum in Rice Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request memorials for Evelyn be given to St. Thomas or Riverview Adult Day Care. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart.
