Eugene “Scottie” James Scott, age 55, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Elkhart General Hospital, surrounded by family and friends.

Eugene was born on July 14, 1970, in Niles, Michigan, to the late Jeffrey Scott and Linda Gilbert-Jones, who survive.

He was united in marriage to Victoria Cockerham. Eugene was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He leaves to cherish his wife, Victoria Cockerham; his sons, Malik Scott, and Jamal Scott; his sister, Lisa Scott; his grandson, Gionni Scott; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Eugene was baptized under the leadership of Pastor Bacon at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Niles, Michigan. He was employed at Statewide Aluminum until illness prevented him from continuing his work.

Eugene truly loved life and the people in it. He had a deep love for his family, music, and friends, and was known by many as an “all-around cool guy.”

He enjoyed coaching baseball and spending time with those he loved most.

Eugene also adored his dogs, Bentley, and Bella, who brought him great joy and companionship.

Eugene “Scottie” James Scott will be remembered for his kind heart, laid-back spirit, and unwavering love for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Homegoing Memorial Service will be at 12:00 pm on Friday, January 23, 2026 at New Vision of Life Church, 400 W. Mishawaka Rd., Elkhart, IN 46517.

A gathering of family and friends will be held 1 hour from 11:00 am to 12:00pm immediately before the start of the service.
