ELKHART -- Ethel Lee Smith, 80, residing at Hubbard Hill Estates, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, at Elkhart General Hospital.
She was born April 15, 1931, in Coffee County, Tenn., to the late John Matthew and Enna (Painter) Smith. She married Hershel L. Smith on July 1, 1950, in Rossville, Ga. He died on Oct. 17, 2006, in Elkhart.
Surviving are her sons, Phillip D. (Sherry) Smith and Lucas W. (Deb) Smith, both of Elkhart, and Richard T. (Cindy) Smith of Centralia, Ill. Eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert (Evelyn) Smith of Mishawaka, survive as well.
Ethel worked at Uniroyal for more than 32 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church for many years. Ethel was a sports fan and loved to cook and spend time with her family. She also enjoyed fishing, camping and puzzles.
Visitation for Ethel will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at Billings Funeral Home. Friends may also call for one hour prior to the 1 p.m. Friday funeral service at Hubbard Hill Estates Chapel. The Rev. Richard Matteson will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery.
