Erik G. Schmidt, 42, of Elkhart, passed away of natural causes at Elkhart General Hospital on Tuesday, Mar. 26, 2019.

He was born in Coldwater, MI on Nov. 22, 1976 to Robert and Kathleen (Schneider) Schmidt, who survive along with his spouse Mandie M. (Cavalcante) Schmidt.

Also surviving are children Lewis, Ethel and Madison Schmidt, brother Steven (Amanda) Schmidt and a host of loving extended family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1108 S. Main St., Elkhart in Monday, Apr. 1, 2019 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10 am. The Rev. Patrick Hake will officiate, and burial will follow at St. Vincent Catholic Cemetery in Elkhart. Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart have been assisting the family.

Erik spent most of his life as an assembly worker in several area manufacturing plants. He was also quite handy and loved to tinker with, rebuild and try to repair things that were broken. While he enjoyed video games and rooting for his beloved Green Bay Packers, he will be best remembered for his love for his family, his outgoing and friendly personality and his willingness to always help others.

Memorials may be given to the Autism Society of Indiana.
