EDWARDSBURG, Mich. -- Emma Mae Boettcher, 79, of Maple Glen Drive, died at 12:35 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 3, 2008) in Elkhart General Hospital, Elkhart, Ind.

She was born Feb. 4, 1929, in Jonesboro, Ill., to William F. and Cora (Ralls) Clardy. On July 22, 1972, she married Robert D. "Bob" Boettcher in South Bend, Ind.

He survives along with two sons, Michael E. (Mary) Toler of Goshen, Ind., and Donald E. (Charlotte) Toler of Elkhart; one stepson, Mark Boettcher of Indianapolis; one stepdaughter, Debbie Boettcher of Franklin, Ind.; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Frank Toler; one daughter, Sybil J. Toler; and two brothers, Dugan and James Clardy.

Mrs. Boettcher worked at Judd Drugs in Goshen for 23 years before being transferred to the Elkhart store, where she ran the restaurant counter. She worked in sales at Zeisel's Department Store. Mrs. Boettcher was a member of Goshen VFW Post 985 and attended Bethel Church of God.

She was a self-taught musician who loved gospel music, singing and playing the guitar. When she was younger, she played and sang for her church and the local radio station. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and playing Uno with her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Boettcher wintered in Mission, Texas, with her husband for many years.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to Thursday's 11 a.m. funeral service, all at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor Jeffrey Peters of Bethel Assembly of God will officiate. Burial will follow in Adamsville Cemetery, Adamsville.
