WHITE PIGEON, Mich. — Emil Dowan Schmalfeldt, 59, of White Pigeon, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
He was born Nov. 15, 1956, in Benton Harbor, to the late Melvin Schmalfeldt and Juanita (Nolan) Schmalfeldt.
Survivors include his life partner of 27 years, Craig Craft, of White Pigeon; one stepdaughter, Coraya (Jake) Siwy, of Goshen; one sister, Darlene (John) Hourt, of Senith, Mo.; and one brother, Melvin Schmalfeldt, Jr.,of Hartford.
He was employed by South Bend Medical Foundation as their custodial manager.
In keeping with Emil's wishes, cremation will take place and a celebration of his life will be at a later date.
Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, has been entrusted with arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made in Emil's name to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
