Obituary

Ms. Eloise Johnson, 77, of Dayton, OH and formerly of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at the Dayton home of her daughter, Veneta on Friday, July 30, 2021. She was born on March 24, 1944, in Stuttgart, Arkansas to the late Lige Johnson, Jr. and Juanita (Huff) Weed and graduated from Elkhart High School in 1962.

Surviving Eloise is her daughter Veneta J. Colter of Dayton, OH; sisters Yolanda K. Ivory of Euless, TX and Rose Marie Fayne of Elkhart; her brother Donnie Johnson of South Bend; her brother James Johnson of Elkhart; granddaughter Enika Colter and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and good friends. Preceding her in death is a son, Maurice L. Johnson, and several siblings and grandchildren.

Services for Eloise will be held Friday, August 13, 2021 at 12:00 noon at the St. James AME Church, 122 Dr. MLK, Jr. Dr., Elkhart. Pastor Eileen Thomas will be the Eulogist and burial will follow services at Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart. Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart have been assisting the family with the local arrangements.

Eloise worked at the Indiana Toll Road for a while, and also at Iemma's grocery store, where she spent about 10 years prior to moving to be with her daughter in Dayton. She enjoyed working and had been employed right up to the beginning of the pandemic last year. She was also an excellent cook and enjoyed baking and making her famous homemade wine.
