ELKHART — Elizabeth Ruth "Liz" Smith, 71, of Elkhart, passed away Thursday evening, March 16, 2017, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born May 26, 1945, in Tullahoma, Tennesse, to the late George Ralph Gullett and Margie G. (Grant) Sanders and stepfather Buford Sanders.
She married Shelby Wayne Smith on May 30, 1961, in Lafayette, Georgia.
Shelby survives, as well as their children, Kathy (Charles) McMillan, Teresa (Bryan) Groover, Nicole (Martin) Bohlmann, John (Mary) Smith and Mark (Melissa) Smith, all of Elkhart; also 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sisters BessAnn Parrish of Cookeville, Tennessee, Lyndell (Kevin) Schrock of Las Vegas and her brother Bobby (Geraldine) Gullett of Manchester, Tennesse; and several nieces and nephews.
Liz, as she was known to family and friends, was a loving homemaker, wife, mom and grandma.
She and her husband Shelby were the former owners of Smith & Smith Tools in Elkhart.
She enjoyed bowling, gardening, and flowers, and loved to spend time with her family.
A gathering of friends and family will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 20, and also one hour prior to the 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, a celebration of life service for Liz at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart.
Pastor Mike Peters of Bethany Missionary Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
The family's preferred memorial is to Harbor Light Hospice, 1608 E. Day Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
