ELKHART -- Eliza Scott, 82, of Elkhart, died at 7:45 p.m. Saturday (June 6, 2009) in her home.

She was born Aug. 12, 1926, in Rome, Miss., to Mose Sr. and Martha (Steele) Jackson. She married Wilburn Scott Sr., who preceded her in death in 1998.

Mrs. Scott is survived by one daughter, Minnie Lee (Webb) Arnold of Elkhart; five stepdaughters, Dorothy (Alonzo) Harris, Diane (M.L.) Causey, Emma (Earl) McCaster and Myrtis Gates, all of Elkhart, and Mary Alice (Donald) Tate of South Bend; six stepsons, Henry L. (Angela) Gates, Louis C.(Bessie) Gates, Willie Joe (Anne) Gates, Willie Walter (Jean) Gates and Jimmy (Deloris) Gates, all of Elkhart, and Willie Lee (Shirley) Gates of Flint, Mich.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Mose Jackson Jr. of Chicago; one sister, Martha Lillie Jackson of Chicago; and her lifetime friend, Dessie Beal of Elkhart.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Callie Jackson, five brothers and 10 sisters.

Mrs. Scott was a homemaker and had worked at the Elkhart Housing Authority for about 10 years after moving to the area from Mississippi in 1964. She was a member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church.

There will be no visitation. Cremation will take place with a memorial service at a later date at the church.
