ELKHART — Elaine Florence Taylor, 93, of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday evening, Sept. 2, surrounded by the people she loved.
Elaine was born April 1, 1922, in Chicago, to the late Thomas and Alice (Boss) Gleason. She was the fourth child of eight siblings.
She had two sons from her marriage to the late Jerry Taylor. Also preceding her in death were her son, Kenneth J. Taylor; sisters Dorothy Mackin, Patty Partridge, Kate Garbe, Alice Burel, Betty Ade and Grace Gleason; and brother Bobby Gleason.
She is survived by her son, Scott (Alana) Taylor of Elkhart; and her granddaughter, Lorraine Taylor of Elkhart.
She graduated high school in 1940 and went on to work for Simpson Electric in Chicago. After moving to Indiana, she finished musical instruments for Lintone for many years.
Elaine was lovingly known to friends and family as "grandma." She described her granddaughter as the "light of her life." She enjoyed watching her granddaughter ride her horse, Skyler, at Red Oak Riding Stable in Bristol. She never missed a competition when her health allowed.
One of her proudest moments was, at age 92, watching her granddaughter walk the stage and receive her diploma at Butler University in Indianapolis.
She was a member of Living Faith Fellowship and a follower of Christ. She was a selfless, giving and joyful person. She brought joy to everyone who knew her. She was an avid reader, lover of nature and her pet cats.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in the Devotion section. Carolyn Streby of Living Faith Fellowship will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be given to Living Faith Fellowship Church. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home.
