Edward “Ed” Lloyd Herr, 66, of Elkhart, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2026.

Edward was born on August 30, 1959 in Gary, IN to Lloyd Herr and Helen (Gaines) Herr. Ed was married to Susan (Leyden) Herr on December 27, 1980 in Highland, IN.

Edward is preceded in death by his mother, Helen Herr and brother, Daniel Herr.

Edward is survived by his wife, Susan “Sue” Herr of Elkhart; daughters, Catie Herr and Sarah (Daniel) Marks; adored granddaughter, Elennore; father, Lloyd Herr; brother, Tom Herr and several nephews and nieces.

Edward dedicated over 30 years of his life as a skilled welder for the City of Elkhart. Earlier in his career, he built and worked on the oil rigs in Texas. Known as a man who could fix anything, Edward was happiest spending his spare time tinkering in his garage or tending to his garden.

Baseball and softball were central to Edward’s life; his love for the game shone through. As his daughters were growing up, he was deeply involved in Osolo Little League and cherished his years spent coaching his daughter’s softball teams. Edward was also a passionate, lifelong Chicago Cubs fan who rarely missed a chance to cheer them on. He also enjoyed spending his free time out on the golf course.

Above all, Edward was a family man. He possessed a gentle nature and a quiet strength that his loved ones leaned on. One of his greatest joys was spending time with beloved granddaughter, Elennore, who affectionately called him "Papa."

Edward had a quiet strength, dependability, a big heart and he will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Edward’s Life Service will be held at 3:00 pm EST on Friday, August 21, 2026 in Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514 with Pastor Jeremy Sarber officiating.

Friends and family may gather from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm EST before the start of the service on Friday, August 21, 2026 at the funeral home.

Per the family’s request, Edward will be cremated.
