WHITE PIGEON, Mich. — Edith (Haney) Darkwood, 95, of White Pigeon, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at Cass County Medical Care Facility.
She was born Jan. 13, 1917, in Rochester, Ind., to Daniel L. and Della (Babcock) Cook. On Dec. 28, 1938, she married Edger Haney. He passed away on Aug. 5, 1972. Edith later married Virgil Darkwood on May 8, 1993, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 5, 2010.
Survivors include a daughter, Lou (Marvin) Anderson of Indianapolis; four sons, Wayne (Darlene) Haney of White Pigeon, Lamar (Linda) Haney of Cullowhee, N.C., Guy (Jane) Haney of Orland, Maine, and Robert Darkwood of Pittsburgh; 14 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Eldrith, Elmer and Kenneth Cook, and one great-grandson.
Prior to her retirement, she had been employed more than 20 years at Domore Chair Company in Elkhart. Edith was a faithful member of Bethel United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking, traveling and especially spending time with her grandchildren playing board games.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, April 26, and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service on Friday, April 27, 2012, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor Catherine Koziatek will officiate. Interment will follow in Rice Cemetery.
