Edith "Renee" (Barrentine) Harris Bergerson, 82, of Elkhart, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at Greenleaf Health Campus surrounded by loving family. She was born on March 23, 1941, in Birmingham, AL, to the late James Clarence and Edith R. (Hicks) Barrentine. On January 19, 1963, Renee married the late Bobby Ray Harris in Elkhart. He passed away in 2006. On April 18, 2009, Renee remarried to the late Jerold "Jerry" Bergerson in Elkhart. He passed away in 2022.

Renee is survived by her children, Wanda (Chris) Chiames, and John Harris; grandson, Allan (Sydney Cox) Whitehead; siblings, Gary (Janet) Barrentine, Jan Randall (Fran) Barrentine, and Eileen Singleton; sister-in-law, Linda Barrentine; nieces and nephews, Loreena (Ray) Crise Storer, Phyllis (Kevin) Heckaman, Doyle (Holly) Barrentine, Ernie (Amber) Barrentine, Sandy (Ruben) Simon, Jan Barrentine Jr., Rick Monroe, and Jim (Michele) Crise; beloved kitty cat, Princess; and a loving host of extended family, friends, and acquaintances.

Renee was preceded in death by her parents, James and Edith; husbands, Bobby and Jerry; and brother, Wayne Barrentine.

Services for Renee will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023, at Billings Funeral Home with visitation from 11 AM to 12 PM and a funeral service immediately following at 12 PM. Pastor Gary Miller of That Church will officiate. Burial and graveside services will immediately follow services at Little Pine Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her first husband, Bobby.

Renee worked at ER Carpenter for over 7 years and Belvedere Corp. for 5 years until her retirement in 2000.

In her spare time, Renee enjoyed reading romance novels, baking cakes and cookies, going on drives or out to eat, and spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid collector of coffee cups and adored angels, cardinals, and butterflies, the icons becoming a sign of beauty and peace for her.

Renee was a devoted servant to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a longtime member of That Church and raised her family there, spreading the love and word of the church to those closest to her. Renee could also be found reading her Bible or singing along to deep Southern hymns, always making sure to keep her faith alive.

Renee will best be remembered as a feisty, strong-willed woman who adored her faith, home state, family, and friends. She will be dearly missed by those whose hearts she touched throughout her life.
