He was born July 21, 1915, in Elkhart to Forrest and Bertha (Schultz) Fields. He married Irma F. Plank on Nov. 28, 1935. She died May 18, 2001, in Elkhart.

He is survived by one son, Larry Fields of Lafayette; one daughter, Joan (Robert) Helvie of Valparaiso; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Richard and Robert Fields, both of Elkhart.

He was preceded in death by his son, Edward E. Fields; and his twin brother, Merle Fields.

Friends may call two hours prior to Friday's 11 a.m. funeral service at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elkhart. The Rev. Robert G. Schallhorn Jr. will officiate. Interment will be in Rice Cemetery.

Mr. Fields was an insurance agent for 20 years with Prudential Life. He was a courier for Riblet Products for more than seven years and a welder at Excel for 18 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Life Underwriters of Elkhart County.
