Obituary

Douglas Shane Treece, 58, of Milford, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 7:30 a.m., following an illness borne with quiet strength, grit, and dignity. Surrounded by the love, laughter, and comforting presence of his family, Shane entered into eternal rest, confident in the promises of his Lord and Savior and undoubtedly greeted with the words, “Well done.”

Shane was born on November 25, 1967, in Elkhart County, Indiana, the beloved son of the late Dallas Fireline and Trudy Ann Treece Normant. Preceding Shane in death was also the love of his life, his beloved wife, Lisa C. (Stroup) Treece, who passed away in July of this past year after 17 beautiful, joy-filled years together. Their bond was one built on devotion, laughter, shared interests, and an unshakable partnership that defined Shane’s heart and soul.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Steven E. (Toni) Terry of Milford, with whom Shane made his home, Jason King of Goshen, and Justin King of California. Shane was an intensely proud father—protective, supportive, and endlessly loving—and his children were always his greatest accomplishment. He also leaves behind his sisters, Kelly Warner and Tammy Baltimore, both of Elkhart; his treasured grandchildren, Payton and Gabriel King and Sylas and Simon Terry, who were the absolute light of his life; and half-brothers Pedro and Terry (whereabouts unknown). Shane is further survived by a large extended family spanning multiple generations of nieces and nephews, along with countless friends, buddies, coworkers, and lifelong pals—each of whom carries a story, a laugh, or a memory made better simply because Shane was part of it.

In keeping with the family’s wishes, Shane’s life will be celebrated with a memorial gathering of family and friends at Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart on Monday, February 9, 2026 at 1:00 pm, with visitation being held there one hour prior. Cremation has taken place.

For many years, Shane proudly dedicated himself to Grand Design in Middlebury, where he served as a foreman in the service department. He was known as a steady leader, a problem-solver, and a man who believed in doing things the right way—the first time. His attention to detail, mechanical knowledge, and quiet reliability earned him the respect of both management and coworkers alike. Shane took genuine pride in his work, not for recognition, but because providing, contributing, and being dependable mattered deeply to him. Still, those who knew him best would say that while Shane was devoted to his job, it never defined him nearly as much as the people he loved.

Family was Shane’s true calling. He was fiercely loyal, deeply compassionate, and endlessly giving—to his wife, his children, his grandchildren, and his extended family. In Shane’s world, family was everything, and love was something you showed through presence, protection, humor, and a willingness to give without being asked. He carried a humble spirit, a generous heart, and a sincere faith, always grateful to the “Man Upstairs” for the blessings he never took for granted.

Shane loved the simple joys of life: watching movies and NASCAR with Lisa, cheering (sometimes loudly) for his Dallas Cowboys, and tinkering with just about anything mechanical. He believed nearly everything deserved at least one good attempt at being fixed before being thrown away—sometimes two or three attempts, just to be sure.

And then there was the rock-and-roll Shane. In his younger days, he lived loud, proud, and electric—attending a small army’s worth of rock concerts back when concert tour T-shirts were worn like badges of honor. From KISS to Ozzy to Ronnie James Dio, Shane saw them all, felt the bass in his chest, and soaked up every power chord. Those experiences never left him; they simply matured into great stories, knowing smiles, and the quiet confidence of someone who truly lived those moments. As any true rocker would say—Shane was better for it, and so are the rest of us who get to remember him.

Shane Treece will be remembered for his work ethic, his faith, his loyalty, his humor, and above all, his love. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the friendships he nurtured, and the memories that will forever echo—some softly, some loudly—like a great rock ballad that never really fades away.
