ELKHART — Douglas A. Stevens, 61, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully following an extended illness at home on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018.

He was born March 8, 1957, in Elkhart to the late Joseph and Dorothy (Powell) Stevens, and married Debbie Smith on Aug. 27, 1976. She survives.

Also surviving are sons Doug (Lauren) and Derek (Brooke) Stevens; a brother, David; six grand-children; and his beloved dog, Pete.

A brother, Joseph, preceded him in death.

Doug worked as a truck driver for Russell Products of Bristol for nearly 10 years. He loved country music, especially Lynyrd Skynyrd, golf, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Although Doug will be sorely missed, at long last this Freebird can spread his wings and fly!

An 11 a.m. service has been scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 6, at Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with visitation one hour prior.

Pastor Ray Caudill will officiate.
